Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 13-year-old boy from Meerut has been identified as the perpetrator behind a false bomb threat that was sent via email concerning an Air Canada flight departing from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi to Toronto. The incident, which occurred on June 4 at 10.50 pm, prompted authorities to conduct a thorough inspection of the aircraft, following the security protocol.

According to a report by the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), the email, which claimed that there was a bomb on board the Air Canada flight bound for Toronto, was later determined to be a hoax. The email was traced back to the young boy from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport), Usha Rangnani.

Upon questioning, the teenager admitted that he sent the false threat “just for fun” and to test whether he could be traced by the authorities. The boy revealed that he had been inspired by news reports of a similar bomb hoax involving a flight at Mumbai airport. Wanting to see if he could replicate the incident without getting caught, the boy created a new email ID on his mobile phone and used his mother’s WiFi connection to send the threatening email.

After sending the email, the boy immediately deleted the ID. The next day, when news of the “bomb threat” surfaced, he reportedly felt excited but did not disclose his involvement to his parents out of fear. Subsequently, the teenager was brought before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and was later handed over to his parents based on the board’s decision.

DCP Usha Rangnani emphasised the seriousness of making hoax calls, urging citizens to refrain from engaging in such activities for amusement or without understanding the potential consequences. She highlighted that such actions could result in severe legal repercussions, including imprisonment.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the 13-year-old boy from Meerut’s misguided attempt at a prank led to significant disruption and wasted resources as authorities responded to the false bomb threat. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behaviour and the consequences of engaging in activities that could endanger public safety.
