LAKE COUNTY, Ill. – A Mundelein resident was taken into custody by Lake County deputies on Tuesday after allegedly wielding a knife and threatening his neighbours. The incident took place at around 9:55 a.m. in the 26200 block of North Route 83 in unincorporated Mundelein.

According to reports, the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Luis Maganda-Chino, approached a neighbour’s house and began shouting while brandishing a knife. He proceeded to stab the door of the property, causing a commotion that prompted a call to the authorities.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement officers, Maganda-Chino retreated back into his home. Mundelein Police officers were summoned to the scene to offer assistance, including Spanish translation services as the suspect predominantly communicates in Spanish.

Following an hour-long standoff, Maganda-Chino eventually surrendered and was apprehended by the authorities. Several knives were confiscated from the scene as evidence.

It was revealed that Maganda-Chino had an outstanding warrant for violating an order of protection. He now faces charges of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

Expressing his gratitude for the successful resolution of the situation, Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg commended the collaborative efforts of the emergency telecommunicators and deputies involved. He also extended his appreciation to the Mundelein Police Department for their prompt response and assistance.

Maganda-Chino is currently awaiting his initial court appearance as the legal proceedings unfold.
