An unfortunate incident occurred last Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Luyang Spring in Barangay Obong, Dalaguete, Cebu, where an eight-year-old boy lost his life in a drowning accident. The victim, identified as Khart Vydam Salonoy Purlas, a Grade 2 pupil from Barangay Pugalo, Alcoy, Cebu, was swimming with his friends when the tragedy struck.
Reports from the Dalaguete police indicated that the young boy was enjoying a swim with his companions in the spring’s waters, which have a depth of approximately five feet. Sadly, Purlas was later discovered unconscious in the water by his younger sibling, prompting a swift response to rescue him from the spring.
Emergency services were called, and the victim was immediately taken to the nearby Cardinal Rosales Memorial Hospital in Dalaguete town for urgent medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Purlas was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
