Johnny Ray Blackwelder Jr. : “Cheating Argument Ends in Gunshots: One Arrested”

One individual has been taken into police custody following a heated argument over infidelity that escalated into gunfire, resulting in a potentially dangerous situation. The incident unfolded at around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, as two women and a man engaged in a dispute outside a residence on Dixon Lane in Salisbury. Chief Deputy Jason Owens of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that tensions flared when the topic of cheating in a relationship was broached.

Subsequently, one of the women reportedly ventured into the house and retrieved a firearm, brandishing it in a threatening manner towards the man and the other woman. In response, the man retreated to his vehicle and retrieved his own weapon. As the altercation persisted for several minutes, the man discharged two or three shots in the direction of the woman’s abode. Alarmingly, two children were present outside, either on the porch or in the yard, near the vicinity where the shots were fired.

Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the scene upon hearing the gunshots and confiscated both firearms involved in the confrontation for evidentiary purposes. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Johnny Ray Blackwelder Jr., was apprehended by deputies for allegedly discharging the firearm. Blackwelder faces charges of misdemeanor assault against a female, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon in the presence of minors, and a misdemeanor domestic violence offence.

Following his arrest, Blackwelder was remanded to the Rowan County Detention Center without bond, given the domestic nature of the charges laid against him.
