Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man from Virginia has been charged with a series of felonies after allegedly using the identity of a resident in Upper Gwynedd Township to obtain and withdraw over $20,000 in loans from two financial institutions last September.

Identity theft and fraud charges

Jahmaine Faqiri, aged 34 and residing in Stafford, Va., is facing multiple charges, including dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity, forgery, receiving stolen property, access device fraud, identity theft, and theft by deception.

According to court records, Faqiri used the victim’s personal information, including name, date of birth, address, Social Security number, and a fake Pennsylvania driver’s license, to open bank accounts, apply for loans, and withdraw funds.

Details of the fraudulent loans

The incident came to light when the victim, a resident of Upper Gwynedd Township, discovered two loans opened fraudulently in his name. The loans, one for $15,000 through Member One Federal Credit Union and another for $8,000 through Mariner Finance, were applied for and approved in June 2023.

Debt collectors contacted the victim when the loans were not repaid, prompting an investigation by the Upper Gwynedd Township Police.

Investigation and evidence

Police obtained search warrants for the banks involved, requesting surveillance images, video footage, loan documents, and other evidence. The investigation revealed that Faqiri had posed as the victim, using his personal information to secure the loans and withdraw the funds.

Bank records showed withdrawals made by Faqiri shortly after the loans were disbursed, with surveillance footage capturing his presence at the bank branches in Virginia and Maryland.

Court proceedings

Faqiri was released on $25,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard on June 27 at 1 p.m.

Note: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty. This information is based on public court records.
