Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 51-year-old man from Newcastle is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of Hazrat Ali Rohani, a 17-year-old student at Kent-Meridian High School in Renton on June 5. Aaron Brown Myers has also been charged with second-degree assault and firearm enhancements, according to documents filed in King County Superior Court on June 10.

Hazrat, who was from Kent, tragically lost his life due to multiple gunshot wounds, as determined by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. Myers was arrested by the Renton Police Department at the scene outside Big 5 Sporting Goods on South Grady Way on the evening of the incident.

The court documents reveal that Myers took it upon himself to intervene in a situation he perceived as a potential crime, despite not being a trained law enforcement officer. He encountered three teenagers in the parking lot, one of whom had an airsoft gun in his possession. Without verifying the situation or seeking help, Myers confronted the teens with his firearm and allegedly shot Hazrat multiple times.

Myers is set to appear for arraignment on June 24 at the GA Courtroom of the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. He is currently held at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle on a $2 million bail.

Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lauren M. Burke stated in the charging documents that Myers acted beyond his authority and escalated the situation unnecessarily. Surveillance footage captured the events leading up to the shooting, contradicting Myers’s account to law enforcement.

This tragic incident comes in the wake of another fatal shooting of a Kent-Meridian High School student, Cristopher Medina Zelaya, 18, in Kent’s Campus Park parking lot on June 3. Kent Police are actively investigating this case and have not made any arrests as of June 10.

The community mourns the loss of these young lives and calls for justice to be served. The incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of responsible firearm handling and the need for proper intervention protocols in potentially dangerous situations.
