GREAT FALLS — The individual who allegedly ran over a police officer in Cut Bank and was subsequently shot by the officer on Saturday, June 8, 2024, has passed away.

As per the Montana Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday when the police officer spotted a “disorderly individual” in the street outside a local bar.

Upon approaching the individual, later identified as 42-year-old Harley Olson from Cut Bank, the man fled to a parked vehicle in the Pioneer Bar parking lot.

DCI reports that when ordered to exit the vehicle, Olson drove over the officer, prompting the officer to discharge his duty weapon at Olson.



Olson sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to Logan Health in Kalispell in critical condition, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The officer sustained injuries and received medical attention; fortunately, he is expected to fully recover. His identity has not been disclosed, and he has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

Olson’s body has been transferred to the Montana State Lab in Missoula for a post-mortem examination.

The Glacier County Sheriff’s Office has enlisted the assistance of a civilian coroner from the Flathead County Coroner’s Office to collaborate with DCI in probing Olson’s demise.
