Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara provided an update on Tuesday regarding the ongoing police inquiry involving leading Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa. The 47-year-old actor has been brought in for questioning in connection with an alleged murder that took place on June 9 in the Kamakshipalya area of Bengaluru.
According to police sources, the victim, identified as Renuka Swamy, was a resident of Chitradurga and worked for a pharmacy company. Following the murder, Swamy’s body was reportedly dumped into a stormwater drain in Kamakshipalya.
Parameshwara stated, “A person from Chitradurga was murdered in Bengaluru. In connection with that murder, some individuals have been arrested. During the investigation, Darshan’s name came up, leading to his detention for inquiry.”
The Home Minister emphasised that the outcome of the investigation will determine Darshan’s involvement in the crime. He added, “Until the investigation is complete, we cannot make any definitive statements. The reasons behind the murder and Darshan’s potential involvement will only be known once the inquiry concludes.”
It has been alleged that the victim made derogatory remarks against a film actress in a social media post, potentially triggering the fatal incident.
Responding to queries, Parameshwara confirmed, “Darshan was arrested in Mysuru and has been transferred to Bengaluru for further questioning. He is currently in police custody and cooperating with the investigation.”
