AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Authorities from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) have officially named the individual who tragically lost his life after being hit by an Amarillo police vehicle on Friday evening.
The incident took place as an Amarillo Police Department patrol car was en route northbound on Soncy Road to attend to a serious collision at the junction of 45th and Soncy.
Reports from DPS indicate that, under circumstances yet to be determined, a male pedestrian crossed Soncy Road without utilising a designated crosswalk, in a poorly illuminated section of the street from the west to the east.
Tragically, the driver of the patrol car failed to spot the pedestrian in time and collided with him at the scene of the accident.
The pedestrian has now been identified as David Martinez, a 30-year-old resident of Canyon, TX.
Following the collision, Martinez was swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility, where he succumbed to the injuries sustained during the incident.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
