AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released the identity of the man who tragically lost his life after being struck by an Amarillo police car on Friday night.
Details of the Incident
According to DPS officials, the incident occurred when an Amarillo Police Department patrol car was en route to a major accident at the intersection of 45th and Soncy. The patrol car was travelling northbound on Soncy Road when the unfortunate incident took place.
Reports suggest that the victim, identified as 30-year-old David Martinez from Canyon, TX, crossed Soncy Road without using a designated crosswalk. The area where Martinez crossed was unlit, making it difficult for the driver to spot him.
Tragic Outcome
The driver of the patrol car was unable to see Martinez in time and tragically collided with him at the scene. Martinez was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
