Bengaluru: Renowned Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has been taken into custody in connection with an alleged murder case, according to police sources on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old actor was apprehended from a hotel in Mysuru in relation to the murder of a man named Renuka Swamy on June 9, which occurred within the Kamakshipalya police station limits in Bengaluru, as reported by the sources.
Following the unfortunate incident, the body of Swamy, who was employed at a pharmacy company and belonged to Chitradurga, was disposed of in a stormwater drain in Kamakshipalya.
It is believed that the victim had made disrespectful remarks about a film actress in a social media post, leading to the tragic turn of events.
Local residents alerted the authorities about the murder, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
An autopsy was conducted on the body, confirming that Swamy was indeed a victim of foul play, as per the sources.
Further examination of the case led to the apprehension of several suspects, who eventually revealed crucial information, as stated by a police official.
Based on the statements provided by the suspects, Darshan was taken into custody by the police.
Authorities are currently probing whether the actor had direct involvement in the murder or if he was part of a larger conspiracy, the sources added.
In light of the developments, tight security measures have been implemented at Darshan’s residence in RR Nagar, Bengaluru.
