Bengaluru, Jun 11 (PTI) – Renowned Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has been taken into custody in connection with an alleged murder case, according to police sources.
The 47-year-old actor was apprehended from a hotel in Mysuru following the death of a man named Renuka Swamy on June 9 in the Kamakshipalya police station area. Swamy, a resident of Chitradurga, was reported to have worked at a pharmacy company.
Reports suggest that the victim had made defamatory remarks about a popular film actress on social media, which may have led to the tragic incident.
Local residents alerted the authorities after discovering Swamy’s body dumped in a stormwater drain in Kamakshipalya. A post-mortem examination confirmed that he had been murdered.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of several suspects, one of whom implicated Darshan in the crime. The police are now probing whether the actor played a direct role in the murder or was part of a larger conspiracy.
To ensure the safety of Darshan and his family, security measures have been heightened at his residence in RR Nagar.
