Tragic Discovery in Alpine, Utah
ALPINE, Utah – Authorities in Utah have identified a woman found dead near a trail, and they believe her cell phone captured her final moments.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that hikers stumbled upon a distressing scene on June 7 near Horsetail Falls in the mountains above Alpine in Utah County. A small dog, alone with a cell phone and personal belongings, raised concerns about a potential accident in the vicinity.
Upon reviewing the phone’s footage, the hikers were shocked to witness a young woman, later identified as 19-year-old Cynthia Ann Grimwood, being swept away by a powerful current near the water. Her lifeless body was eventually discovered under some trees in the water near the falls.
Authorities noted that the area where Grimwood’s body was found was inundated with heavy snowmelt, rendering the conditions perilous. First responders faced significant challenges in accessing the site and were forced to halt recovery efforts until the following morning, despite remaining in the area overnight.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of Grimwood’s tragic demise.
