Accident – Death – Obituary News : Nashville Court to Decide on Release of Covenant School Shooter’s Writings

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The ongoing controversy surrounding the potential release of the writings of the Covenant School shooter is set to continue next week in court.

Davidson County Chancellor ‘I’ashea Myles has scheduled a “show-cause” hearing for Monday following media reports about the publication of alleged writings from Audrey Hale, the perpetrator of the tragic incident at the Covenant School.

The hearing aims to determine whether the publication of these documents by The Tennessee Star and its Editor-in-Chief, Michael Leahy, violates court orders and could lead to contempt proceedings and sanctions.

The Tennessee Star claims to have obtained 80 pages of Hale’s writings, sparking the legal battle over their release.

On March 27, 2023, Audrey Hale, aged 28, shot and killed six people, including three children, at the Covenant School in Green Hills. The victims were identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, William Kinney, Cynthia Peak, Dr. Katherine Koonce, and Mike Hill.

Following the shooting, investigators executed search warrants at the Hale family home, where they discovered two shotguns, a suicide note, journals, a memoir, and a psychiatric medical folder. Hale was reportedly under doctor’s care for an emotional disorder.

The hearing to decide on the release of Hale’s writings will take place on Monday, June 17, at 11 a.m.

The outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications for the public’s access to sensitive information related to the tragic event at the Covenant School.
