Tragedy struck Fayetteville last week as a 7-year-old boy, Zion Gibbs, succumbed to his injuries after being shot. The Fayetteville Police Department confirmed that Zion Gibbs passed away at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill on June 10.
The incident took place on June 7, shortly after midnight, when Gibbs was inside a home on Danish Drive. Investigators have labelled the shooting as a drive-by, with security cameras in the neighbourhood capturing the horrifying event. The sound of the shooting was so loud that it even shook nearby Ring doorbell cameras.
Evidence from the scene revealed at least 20 shell casings scattered on the street, indicating the severity of the incident. The shooting has left residents in shock, highlighting the prevalent issue of gun violence within the community.
Local anti-gun-violence advocate, Fon Dockery, emphasised the importance of community involvement in combating such tragedies. “We have to get involved because you never know when this trouble is going to come knocking at your door,” Dockery stated.
