In a tragic incident in Korba district, Chhattisgarh, a 50-year-old woman lost her life after being trampled by a wild elephant on Monday morning. The victim, identified as Yado Bai Kanwar, was walking with her husband, Vriksh Ram Kanwar, towards Girari village when the attack took place.

While Vriksh Ram Kanwar managed to escape the wrath of the elephant, his wife was not as fortunate. The elephant seized Yado Bai Kanwar and ruthlessly trampled her to death before his eyes. Following the attack, Vriksh Ram Kanwar immediately informed the local villagers and authorities, leading to the prompt arrival of forest and police personnel at the scene of the tragedy.

Escalating Human-Elephant Conflicts in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh has been grappling with an increasing number of human-elephant conflicts, particularly in its northern districts, over the past decade. Areas such as Surguja, Raigarh, Korba, Surajpur, Mahasamund, Dhamtari, Gariaband, Balod, and Balrampur have been significantly affected by this issue.

According to reports from the forest department, approximately 260 individuals have lost their lives in elephant-related attacks in the state over the last three years. These incidents highlight the urgent need for effective measures to mitigate the conflicts between humans and elephants in Chhattisgarh.

This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the pressing challenges posed by wildlife encounters in regions where human settlements intersect with natural habitats. Authorities and conservationists must work together to devise sustainable solutions that safeguard both human lives and the well-being of wild animals.
