Authorities in Letcher County, Kentucky, are investigating the tragic death of a woman who was found with injuries consistent with an animal attack. The incident was reported by Kentucky State Police (KSP) on Monday.
According to a press release from the KSP, officers were called to Doty Creek in the Jeremiah area of Letcher County in the early hours of Sunday morning. The call came in after a 911 report of a woman found deceased in the area.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers identified the victim as 57-year-old Trina Sandlin from Jeremiah. The preliminary investigation revealed that Sandlin had left her residence earlier in the evening to visit a neighbour but never returned home.
Family members later discovered Sandlin near her property, down an embankment, where she had sustained injuries consistent with an animal attack. The coroner’s office pronounced her dead at the scene, and her body was taken for further examination during an autopsy.
As of Monday, the KSP reported that the incident was still under investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Sandlin’s death.
This tragic event has shocked the local community and raised concerns about safety in the area. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take precautions when venturing outdoors, especially during the night.
