Accident – Death – Obituary News :

On the 10th of June 2024, in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, a woman known as Ms. Li narrowly avoided falling victim to a potential investment scam after purchasing gold products worth 500,000 RMB from Lukfook Jewellery. Ms. Li’s unusual request to have the valuable package shipped to an out-of-town location raised suspicions, leading to a series of events that ultimately prevented a disaster.

The alert store manager at Lukfook Jewellery’s counter in Shaoxing took swift action on the 28th of May, contacting the Tashan Police Station in the Yuecheng District. The store manager reported that a customer, Ms. Li, had made a substantial purchase of gold inventory and requested assistance in shipping the gold items. However, the manager grew increasingly suspicious as it was uncommon for customers to ship such high-value purchases.

Upon examination, the police discovered that the package was addressed to a courier collection point. They immediately alerted the Anti-Fraud Center of the Yuecheng Public Security Bureau and reached out to Ms. Li to raise awareness about fraud prevention. With the police’s intervention, the 500,000 RMB worth of gold products was successfully recovered before it could be shipped out.

Unravelling the Deception

During questioning, Ms. Li initially denied being a victim of fraud, claiming that the gold was intended as a gift for a friend’s wedding. However, under persistent questioning from the police, she eventually revealed that she had been lured into an investment scam by an individual posing as an investment manager in the photovoltaic industry.

The scam involved joining a chat group with over 220 members, where participants discussed investment opportunities and claimed to have made significant profits. Ms. Li was instructed to purchase gold and send it to a “customer service” representative who promised to credit the equivalent amount to her account. The scammer even provided deceptive tactics to mislead law enforcement in case of inquiries.

Realization and Admission

After thorough analysis by the police, Ms. Li finally acknowledged that she had been deceived. She admitted to being instructed to deceive the authorities and was taught how to mislead them by the scammer. The police’s quick action and intervention prevented Ms. Li from losing her hard-earned money to the fraudulent scheme.

It serves as a cautionary tale for individuals to remain vigilant and cautious when approached with investment opportunities that seem too good to be true. By staying informed and seeking advice from legitimate financial advisors, one can protect themselves from falling prey to such scams.
