A tragic hit-and-run incident in Cocoa, Florida, has resulted in the arrest of a 62-year-old man who now faces multiple charges following the death of a 4-year-old boy and serious injuries sustained by a 14-year-old girl last month, according to authorities.
The incident took place around 9 p.m. on May 26 at the intersection of State Road 520 and Washington Avenue, where police responded to a report of a collision involving two pedestrians.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two children, aged 4 and 14, with severe injuries in the road. The driver of a pickup truck involved in the crash fled the scene, leaving the victims in need of medical attention.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the children were crossing the highway when they were struck by the vehicle, leading to the tragic outcome.
Tragically, the 4-year-old boy passed away two days after the incident, while the 14-year-old girl continues to recover, although she will reportedly face lasting effects from her injuries.
Following the crash, the driver of the pickup truck, identified as Kenneth McGhee, contacted authorities approximately 15 minutes later to report his involvement in the incident.
McGhee surrendered himself to the police on Friday and was subsequently booked into the Brevard County jail. He was later released on a $30,000 bond.
According to law enforcement officials, McGhee is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily harm.
