Yvonne Martinez, a spokesperson for the Cocoa police department, expressed sadness over the situation, noting that surveillance footage captured McGhee pulling into an AutoZone following the crash but never exiting his vehicle.
“The best course of action in such a situation is to stop and render aid. McGhee would have been in a much better position legally if he had stayed at the scene of the accident,” Martinez remarked.

Approximately 15 minutes after the collision, a call was placed to 911 dispatchers by a man later identified as McGhee. He admitted to hitting someone on the road and provided a description of his vehicle. Police located McGhee at his residence, where he was found sitting on the back bumper of his truck. The vehicle was impounded, and authorities continued their investigation into the tragic incident.
Both children were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, with the 4-year-old boy tragically succumbing to his injuries two days later. The 14-year-old girl is currently undergoing recovery. McGhee turned himself in to the authorities on Friday and is currently being held at the Brevard County complex on a bond of $30,000.
