MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been charged with aggravated robbery after allegedly stealing a small amount of money from a man in the Bethel Grove area. The incident occurred late at night, leading to a police response and the arrest of the suspect.

According to the Memphis Police Department, the victim reported the robbery to officers at the intersection of Hugenot Street and Arlington Avenue. The victim claimed that the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Japhfus Alexander, had robbed him and was still in the vicinity.

The victim recounted that Alexander approached him while he was on his way to a store and demanded that he hand over all his possessions, threatening to harm him if he did not comply. In fear for his safety, the victim handed over four one-dollar bills, four quarters, a pack of Seneca cigarettes, a black cell phone, and his black hat.

After taking the items, Alexander allegedly swung a metal pipe at the victim before leaving the scene. Undeterred, the victim decided to follow Alexander until he could find help from the police.

Upon apprehending Alexander, the police discovered the stolen items, including the money, hat, and metal pipe, in his possession. Despite the evidence against him, Alexander denied the robbery allegations and offered to assist the officers in locating his phone.

Subsequently, the phone was found in a yard on Larose Avenue, further corroborating the victim’s account of the incident. Japhfus Alexander was then arrested and taken into custody, where he remains on a $12,000 bond awaiting his court appearance scheduled for Tuesday morning.
