ALPINE, Utah – Authorities in Utah have recently identified the victim of a tragic incident that occurred near a trail in the picturesque town of Alpine. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office has revealed that the woman, whose body was discovered near Horsetail Falls, may have unknowingly recorded her final moments on her cellphone.

The harrowing discovery was made by hikers on June 7, who stumbled upon a small dog and a collection of personal items alongside a cellphone near the popular hiking spot. Concerned that someone may have met with an accident, the hikers examined the phone and were shocked to find footage showing a young woman being swept away by the powerful current of a nearby creek.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Cynthia Ann Grimwood. Her lifeless body was found trapped under a tangle of trees in the water close to the falls, marking a tragic end to what was supposed to be a leisurely hike in the beautiful surroundings of Utah County.

Authorities have described the area where Grimwood’s body was discovered as being inundated with meltwater from heavy snowfall, making the terrain treacherous and difficult to navigate. First responders faced challenges in reaching the site and were forced to halt recovery efforts until the following day, choosing to remain in the vicinity overnight to ensure the safety of the operation.

An autopsy to determine the exact cause of Grimwood’s untimely demise has been scheduled, shedding light on the circumstances leading up to the tragic incident.
