Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The driver accused of causing the death of a University of Cincinnati student in a hit-and-run incident almost two years ago has pleaded guilty to multiple charges. The tragic event took place in September 2022, when two pedestrians were crossing Jefferson Avenue in a marked crosswalk and were struck by a car. The driver of the Honda CR-V continued north on Jefferson Avenue, hitting a tree and coming to a stop at West Martin Luther King Drive. The police suspected that the Honda had been stolen, and the driver fled the scene on foot.

Both victims were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, with one of them, 18-year-old Cayden Turner, sadly passing away. Following the incident, a 17-year-old was arrested and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, among other serious felonies. In December of the same year, Michael Quarles, who is now 18, was indicted as an adult in connection to the fatal crash.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

This Monday, Quarles pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, possession of weapons under disability, and leaving the scene of a crash. As part of the plea agreement, Quarles received a sentence of 12-16 years in prison.
