PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: A 22-year-old man, Anuwat Pimmat, has been apprehended following the tragic discovery of his 21-year-old dating app partner, Benjarat Choeijan, who was found strangled to death shortly after learning about his marital status.
Anuwat was taken into custody at a local eatery in tambon Thongchai of Bang Saphan district in Prachuap Khiri Khan around 10 pm on Sunday, under an arrest warrant issued by the Phetchaburi Criminal Court. He is facing charges of murder and concealing a body.
The lifeless body of Benjarat was found among the vegetation along the Phetkasem Highway in tambon Nong Prong of Khao Yoi district in Phetchaburi on a fateful Friday. Hailing from Phuket province, the victim was dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, devoid of any identification documents.
During a subsequent re-enactment on Monday, Anuwat revealed to the authorities that he had met Benjarat through a dating application and had entered into a serious relationship with her since the Songkran festival in April.
He disclosed that the tragic incident unfolded while they were passing through Sam Roi Yot district of Prachuap Khiri Khan on June 3, when a phone call from his wife exposed his marital status to Benjarat. Enraged by this revelation, Benjarat confronted Anuwat, leading to a heated argument that culminated in a fatal act of violence.
Mr Anuwat recounted that in a fit of rage, he strangled Benjarat and subsequently drove around in a bid to dispose of her body. Four days later, the victim’s remains were discovered by the highway in Khao Yoi district of Phetchaburi.
