Accident – Death – Obituary News :

On the 19th of March, 2024, Arkansas State Trooper Antonio May was patrolling eastbound on Interstate 30 when he noticed a blue Dodge Challenger with an Alabama license plate in the right lane. Observing that the Challenger was tailgating the vehicle in front of it, Trooper May decided to take action.

Upon activating his lights near the 15-mile marker, the driver of the Challenger failed to yield and instead accelerated, initiating a high-speed chase. Trooper May quickly informed dispatch and engaged in pursuit, reaching speeds of 131 miles per hour. The chase continued until Trooper Kari Alexander successfully deployed spikes, puncturing the front left tire of the fleeing vehicle.

Despite the tire damage, the Challenger continued eastbound, taking exit 30 and turning south onto Hervey Street in Hope. In a reckless manoeuvre, the driver collided with a black SUV, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The driver then turned onto Compress Street, where the chase came to a dramatic end with a crash.

Both the driver and the passenger attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by the Hope Police Department. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Antony Griffin from Benton Harbor, Michigan, was taken into custody and booked at the Hempstead County Jail on charges of fleeing and aggravated assault. The passenger was taken to Wadley Hospital in Hope for evaluation and was later released without incident.

This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the commitment of law enforcement officers to ensure public safety on Arkansas highways. Thanks to the swift actions of Troopers May and Alexander, a potentially dangerous situation was brought to a safe resolution.
