Authorities have confirmed that Alejandro Araujo, a 16-year-old junior at Orosi High School, is the tragic victim of a drowning incident at Shaver Lake. The news has sent shockwaves through the community, with the school offering counseling services to help students cope with the loss.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred just before 1:00 pm on Sunday when Araujo was on a pontoon boat with a friend’s family. Despite wearing a flotation device, the teenager found himself in distress when it separated, causing him to go underwater.

After a harrowing rescue effort, Araujo was located approximately 15 feet underwater. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, he tragically did not survive. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing, with authorities working diligently to uncover the sequence of events that led to the young man’s untimely death.

In response to the tragedy, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has increased patrols on the water, with plans to reassess staffing levels as the busy 4th of July holiday approaches. The community is urged to exercise caution and vigilance when enjoying recreational activities on the lake.
