Accident – Death – Obituary News : BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Albee Benitez has issued a stern warning to the suspects involved in the tragic murder of a Grade 11 student in this city. He urged them to surrender to the authorities immediately and emphasized that the full weight of the law will be brought down upon them until justice is served for the grieving family of the victim.

The Mayor, speaking through his spokesperson, lawyer Caesar Distrito, assured the suspects that their rights will be upheld and they will be provided with all the legal protections afforded to them under the law and Constitution. Benitez expressed his deepest sympathies and condolences to the parents of 20-year-old Nicus Balagosa, who was senselessly gunned down in front of his own parents at their home in Barangay Granada on June 2, just days before his 21st birthday.

In a heartfelt statement, Benitez acknowledged the unimaginable pain and suffering experienced by Nicus’ parents, who witnessed the brutal killing of their only child in their own residence. The tragic incident stemmed from false accusations that Nicus was involved in the rape of a 16-year-old acquaintance.

Mayor Benitez instructed Police Col. Noel Aliño, the director of the Bacolod police force, to ensure the safety of the Balagosa family, who are understandably fearful for their lives following the heinous act. Additionally, he mandated the police to build a solid case against the perpetrators to ensure that justice is served for the victim and his family.

“No one has the authority to take another person’s life and act as judge, jury, and executioner. We live in a society governed by laws, and it is imperative that justice be sought through legal channels and not through vigilantism,” Mayor Benitez emphasized.

The police are currently gathering evidence to file murder charges against the four suspects, including the father of the teenage girl who was involved in the shooting. It was revealed that the girl’s father was one of the gunmen responsible for Nicus’ untimely death.

Nicus Balagosa and his friends, along with the teenage girl, attended a birthday celebration before the tragic events unfolded. Police investigations indicate that Nicus had left the gathering before the alleged rape occurred, prompting further scrutiny of the two remaining friends.

Mayor Benitez implored the suspects to surrender themselves to the authorities promptly to facilitate the legal process and expedite the delivery of justice for the victim and his grieving family..
