In Bacolod City, Mayor Albee Benitez has issued a strong plea to the suspects involved in the tragic murder of a Grade 11 student to surrender themselves to the authorities without delay. Mayor Benitez, speaking through his spokesperson, lawyer Caesar Distrito, has reassured the suspects that their rights will be upheld and that they will be granted all the legal protections afforded to them by the law and Constitution.
Expressing deep sympathy and condolences, Mayor Benitez extended his heartfelt sympathies to the parents of Nicus Balagosa, a 20-year-old student who tragically lost his life in a shocking incident that unfolded in front of his own parents at their home in Barangay Granada on June 2, just days before his 21st birthday.
Mayor Benitez remarked, “I cannot begin to fathom the anguish and pain experienced by Nicus’ parents, who witnessed the senseless loss of their only child within the confines of their own home.”
According to the authorities, Balagosa was falsely accused of involvement in the rape of a 16-year-old acquaintance, a baseless accusation that tragically led to his untimely demise.
Mayor Benitez has directed Police Col. Noel Aliño, the director of Bacolod police, to ensure the safety and security of Balagosa’s family, who are understandably fearful for their lives in the aftermath of this horrific incident.
Furthermore, Mayor Benitez has instructed the police to meticulously build a strong case against the suspects to ensure that justice is served for the innocent victim of this heinous crime.
Mayor Benitez emphatically stated, “Regardless of the circumstances, no individual has the authority to take the life of another or to dispense justice through vigilante actions. Ours is a society governed by laws, not personal vendettas, and justice must be sought through lawful means.”
The police are currently preparing murder charges against the four suspects implicated in this tragedy, including the father of the teenage girl who was identified as one of the gunmen responsible for Balagosa’s death.
It has been revealed that Balagosa and the girl, along with two other friends aged 17 and 19, were attending a friend’s birthday celebration when the alleged rape incident occurred.
Based on the ongoing investigation, it was determined that Balagosa had left the gathering prior to the incident, prompting further scrutiny of his two friends by the authorities.
Mayor Benitez has issued a direct appeal to the suspects involved in this case, urging them to surrender themselves to the authorities promptly.
