MONROE COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) – A carjacking suspect has been apprehended by Monroe police and Monroe County sheriff’s deputies following a high-speed chase that took place over the weekend.

Details of the Incident

According to reports from the sheriff’s office, the suspect assaulted the owner of a Subaru Outback in the 700 block of N. Macomb St. at 7:34 p.m. on Saturday. The suspect, identified as a 47-year-old man from Newport, then fled the scene in the stolen Outback.

Upon receiving the distress call, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office promptly responded to the incident and issued a ‘Be on the Lookout’ (BOLO) alert for the stolen vehicle.

A deputy spotted the stolen vehicle heading north on N. Monroe St. from Mall Rd. in Frenchtown Township at 7:46 p.m. The deputy attempted to stop the driver, but the suspect accelerated, leading to a pursuit. The suspect continued driving towards N. Telegraph Road, where another deputy strategically placed stop sticks. As the suspect drove over the stop sticks, two tires were punctured, causing the vehicle to slow down.

The chase eventually led into the Frenchtown Villa Mobile Home Park, where the suspect navigated through the park before abruptly halting in the 8400 block of Maurice Ct. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement officers.

Charges and Investigations

The suspect has been arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding, assaulting police officers, and resisting and obstructing law enforcement. Additionally, Monroe police are pursuing charges related to the carjacking incident.
