Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered the victim lying on the sidewalk outside the convenience store with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save the individual, they were pronounced dead on-site.

According to the complaint, surveillance footage from the convenience store captured the sequence of events leading up to the shooting. Although the actual shooting was obstructed by an awning, the footage showed the suspect approaching and leaving the scene before and after the incident.

The footage further revealed that moments before the shooting, the victim was in the company of others on the sidewalk. A woman emerged from a nearby house and engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim, leading to a heated exchange.

The woman eventually retreated back into the house, only to return shortly after. Subsequently, a car pulled up, and a passenger—later identified as the shooter—exited the vehicle and headed towards the same house the woman had entered. The shooter emerged from the house moments later, walking towards the convenience store with a gun in hand.

An eyewitness interviewed by the police corroborated these events, stating that the woman had confronted the victim for allegedly disrespecting her property before the fatal confrontation.

The witness further detailed that after the woman’s husband arrived and entered the house, he emerged with a firearm, approached the victim, and fatally shot him, uttering the words “Didn’t I tell y’all” before pulling the trigger.

The driver of the car that transported the shooter was located by the authorities. In his statement, the driver revealed he worked alongside Baskin and had given him a ride home that day. He positively identified Baskin from a booking photo and confirmed the vehicle seen in the surveillance footage dropping off the suspect.

During questioning, Baskin provided conflicting statements to the detectives. Initially denying involvement in the shooting, he later admitted to firing the fatal shot during a subsequent interview.

Baskin claimed that he had come across a firearm outside his residence days before the incident and, being a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a gun, stashed it on his porch. On the day in question, he alleged that he retrieved the gun after hearing the victim making provocative remarks and, in a moment of confrontation, accidentally discharged the weapon.

Following the shooting, Baskin stated that he dismantled the gun and scattered its components along his route to 41st and Silver Spring.
