Accident – Death – Obituary News : Two individuals hailing from Massachusetts found themselves in legal trouble after a routine traffic stop in Alfred, Maine led to the discovery of illicit substances in their possession. The incident, which took place on Friday evening, saw a deputy from the York County Sheriff’s Office pulling over the vehicle for a suspected equipment violation along Biddeford Road.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, the deputy noticed suspicious activities that prompted the deployment of a police dog to conduct an exterior sniff of the car. The canine’s alert signaled the potential presence of narcotics, leading to a thorough search of the vehicle. It was during this search that one of the passengers decided to make a run for it, fleeing into the nearby woods in an attempt to evade capture.
Fortunately, a second deputy was called to the scene and aided in the apprehension of the fleeing individual. Subsequent searches of the vehicle revealed nearly 37 grams of a suspected compound containing fentanyl and methamphetamine concealed inside a food takeout container.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 23-year-old Miguel Hernandez from Lawrence, Massachusetts, was charged with aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs and had his bail set at $10,000. The passenger who attempted to evade authorities, 27-year-old Layhonel Baez, also from Lawrence, Massachusetts, faced charges of aggravated drug trafficking and resisting arrest, with his bail set at $15,000.
