Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a heartbreaking incident in Hanur, a family of four from KR Nagar in Mysuru district attempted suicide by consuming poison, allegedly due to blackmail by a youth. The incident took place near the revered Male Mahadeshwara Hills in Chamarajanagar district, resulting in the death of one member of the family and hospitalisation of three others.

Details of the Incident

The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Mahadeva Nayaka from Chandagala, KR Nagar taluk. His wife, Gowramma (60), daughter Leelavathi (45), and 17-year-old granddaughter are currently receiving treatment at Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital in Hanur.

The family had visited the Mahadeshwara temple atop MM Hills on Friday and were returning home on Saturday when they stopped at Talabetta. It was there that they made the tragic decision to consume poison as a group.

Local residents who discovered them in distress promptly alerted the police. Unfortunately, Mahadeva Nayaka had already passed away by the time law enforcement officials arrived at the scene.

Allegations of Blackmail

It is believed that the Nayaka family was driven to desperation by a blackmail attempt involving a youth named Lokesh from Cheeranahalli in KR Nagar. Lokesh, who was romantically involved with Nayaka’s granddaughter, reportedly recorded a video with her and subsequently used it to blackmail her.

Despite the family’s attempts to seek help by approaching the KR Nagar Police Station, they were allegedly turned away without their complaint being registered. Former KR Nagar MLA S.R. Mahesh has accused the police of inaction, suggesting that their reluctance to act may be linked to Lokesh’s familial connection to the Chief Minister.

Chamarajanagar Superintendent of Police (SP) Padmini Sahoo has acknowledged the allegations of blackmail and police negligence in the case. She confirmed that the victims had approached the KR Nagar Police on two occasions, but no action was taken.

SP Sahoo stated, “The matter has been escalated to the Mysuru District Police. A case related to the suicide attempt has been lodged at the MM Hills Police Station.”
