Accident – Death – Obituary News : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a significant breakthrough in the case of the killing of four civilians in Manipur’s Bishnupur district in January this year. The agency announced on Sunday that it has arrested Lunminsei Kipgen, also known as Langinmang or Mang, a resident of Manipur who is currently incarcerated in an Assam prison.

Kipgen was apprehended from Central Jail, Lokhra in Guwahati, under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Arms Act. According to an NIA spokesperson, Kipgen is the prime suspect in the brutal murders that took place near the water treatment plant at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Bishnupur, on January 18. The assailants had used sophisticated weapons to open fire indiscriminately, resulting in the tragic deaths of the four innocent civilians.

The NIA’s investigation revealed that Kipgen, a former member of the Kuki militant outfit KNF(P), had joined the United Kuki National Army during the recent wave of violence in Manipur. The agency stated that Kipgen’s involvement in the attack was part of the ongoing ethnic unrest and violence in the northeastern state.

The conflict between different communities in Manipur has escalated over the past year, leading to numerous clashes and casualties. Since May 3 last year, at least 225 lives have been lost, and around 50,000 people have been displaced, with many still seeking refuge in relief centres.

Recently, the violence in Manipur has resurged, with a 59-year-old man named S Saratkumar being found beheaded by Kuki militants just two days after the announcement of election results on June 4. Following the incident, an enraged mob set fire to three abandoned Kuki villages near Jiribam, a town on the border of Assam and Tamenglong district in Manipur.

The NIA’s arrest of Lunminsei Kipgen marks a significant development in the efforts to bring justice to the victims of the heinous attacks in Manipur. The agency’s continued investigation into the case aims to uncover the full extent of the violence and unrest plaguing the region..
