KUCHING, June 9: A somber conclusion was reached today as the 62-year-old woman reported missing near Sungai Baron on Friday (June 7) was tragically found drowned by the rescue team at 10.35am.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that the body of the victim, identified as Lenya Sigat, was discovered floating approximately 50 metres from where she was last seen.
“The victim’s body was found floating by the river bank, devoid of any clothing,” stated the report.
Due to the nature of the discovery, initial efforts to retrieve the body were halted until the arrival of the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ).
The operation commander subsequently directed for the body to be handed over to the police for further investigation, officially concluding the search and rescue (SAR) operation at 1pm.
During the initial search for the victim, a can of white paint and various personal belongings, including soap and clothing, were spotted drifting downstream, approximately 100 metres from the bathing area. — DayakDaily
