A 24-year-old woman hailing from Brockton, Massachusetts, and her mother are currently in critical condition following a harrowing accident on Interstate 89 in Vermont on Sunday morning.
Authorities from the Vermont State Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 8:12 a.m., after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash involving an unconscious individual on I-89 northbound near mile marker 93 in Colchester.
Upon arrival at the scene, troopers discovered a severely damaged Alfa Romeo Stelvio containing two women, both of whom were unresponsive and suffered severe injuries. Despite wearing their seatbelts, the women had to be extricated from the SUV and rushed to UVM Medical Center due to the life-threatening nature of their injuries.
Identification of the Victims
The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Denea France, while her mother, aged 52 and hailing from Flushing, New York, was identified as Dawn France. Both individuals are currently listed in critical condition at the hospital.
Cause of the Crash
Initial findings from the investigation, which incorporated statements from eyewitnesses, indicate that the SUV was travelling at an exceedingly high speed in the northbound left-hand lane prior to hydroplaning. This caused the vehicle to veer off the road to the right and collide with a cluster of trees.
