Charles Costello : “Golf Course Brawl: Golfer Hospitalized, Other Arrested”

As the temperature rises and the sun shines, more weekend golfers flock to the course for a relaxing day of hitting the links. However, not all outings end peacefully, as tensions can sometimes escalate into physical altercations.

Such was the case at the Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Courses in the Bronx last Saturday afternoon. A dispute between a 49-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, identified as Charles Costello, turned violent, resulting in the older man requiring CPR and hospitalization.

A FOX 5 employee who happened to be at the scene captured part of the altercation on camera. The incident unfolded, with Costello expressing remorse after the altercation, stating, “I just hit him back. I didn’t know I was hitting so hard.”

The Consequences of Golf Course Altercations

The 49-year-old man was promptly attended to by EMS personnel and transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition. Meanwhile, Costello was apprehended and charged with assault.

While the exact circumstances leading to the confrontation remain unclear, it serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of allowing tensions to escalate on the golf course. Whether it was a misunderstanding, a clash of egos, or simply a bad day on the course, the end result was a trip to the hospital for one golfer and a trip to jail for another.
