Arrest Made in Fatal Crash in East Odessa

ODESSA, Texas — Authorities have taken Benjamin Meece, 37, into custody in connection with a tragic crash that occurred in East Odessa. Meece has been charged with Fail to Stop and Render Aid, a felony offence.

On the morning of June 7, at 9:35 a.m., the Odessa Police Department (OPD) and Odessa Fire Rescue (OFR) rushed to the scene at University and Oakwood following reports of a major collision. According to the investigation, a Dodge Challenger, which Meece was test-driving, was travelling eastbound on University. A Honda Accord, heading westbound on University, attempted to make a southbound turn onto Oakwood when it was struck by the Dodge Challenger.

Meece chose not to offer assistance and fled the scene on foot. However, law enforcement officers managed to apprehend him later. Tragically, the driver of the Honda Accord was declared deceased at the crash site. Meece and the front passenger of the Dodge Challenger, identified as 34-year-old Kenneth Salas, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Medical Center Hospital for treatment.

The identity of the deceased victim will be disclosed once positively identified. Meece is presently under custody at MCH and will be transferred to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center upon release. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
