A tragic incident unfolded in Cumilla’s Burichang as a Bangladeshi man fell victim to gunfire from India’s Border Security Force (BSF).

The unfortunate event took place near pillar No. 66 in the vicinity of Jamtala village, Bakshimul Union, at approximately 8 am on Sunday, as reported by BGB Commander AM Jaber Bin Jabbar.

The deceased, identified as 50-year-old Anowar Hossain from Mirpur village, was allegedly shot while attempting to smuggle sugar into Bangladesh from India.

Local Union Parishad member Abul Kashem recounted hearing gunshots near the border in the morning, leading to the discovery of Anowar’s lifeless body.

Upon being informed of the incident, Shankuchail BGB camp authorities arrived at the scene and confirmed the unfortunate demise.

Chairman of Bakshimul Union Parishad, Abdul Karim, mentioned that Anowar’s body remains near the border’s barbed wire as investigations continue.

Commander Bin Jabbar informed the media that the fatal shooting occurred when Anowar attempted an illegal entry into India and was met with gunfire by BSF personnel, resulting in his immediate death.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is currently in the process of establishing communication with the BSF to address the concerning incident.

Chief of Burichang Police Station, Abul Hasnat Khandakar, expressed shock over the tragic event, noting that the body was discovered near the barbed wire without clear motives for the deadly shooting.
