Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A tragic incident occurred on Saturday as a 19-year-old Brownsville resident, Alexander Gomez, lost his life in a fatal motorcycle crash on the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge. This unfortunate event marks the second fatal crash in as many weeks on the causeway, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The DPS released a statement detailing the circumstances of the crash, which took place on the causeway west of South Padre Island in Cameron County. It was reported that Gomez, riding a red Yamaha Y2F-6 motorcycle, was travelling westbound on the causeway at a high speed when he collided with a grey GMC Sierra Dually truck also heading westbound. The truck had one male driver and one female passenger at the time of the accident.

Following the crash, Gomez was swiftly transported by EMS to Valley Regional Medical Center, where he was sadly pronounced dead. The DPS has initiated a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and factors contributing to the fatal crash.

This recent tragedy comes on the heels of another fatal crash on the causeway just last week, involving a wrong-way driver who caused the death of a 20-year-old Edinburg woman. The driver, Hugo Ernesto Lara, was subsequently arrested on charges of intoxication and manslaughter in connection with the incident.

In response to the loss of their beloved family member, the Enriquez family has taken legal action against Lara by hiring the law firm of J. Michael Moore and filing a lawsuit seeking justice and accountability for the death of Mariah Desiree Enriquez.
