Accident – Death – Obituary News : An investigation is currently underway after seniors at East Brunswick High School in New Jersey were shocked to find that the Jewish Student Union photo in their yearbooks had been replaced by a photo of Muslim students. The superintendent of East Brunswick Public Schools, Victor Valeski, took to Facebook to address the issue, stating that the photo switch was not associated with the Jewish Student Union and the names of its members were also omitted.

Following an internal probe by Valeski, it was discovered that there was gross negligence in the proof review process before the yearbooks went to print. The school board has now enlisted the help of private legal counsel to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The incident has been described as a blatant act of anti-Semitism by East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen. He called on school officials to provide answers regarding how the incident occurred, who was responsible, and how those responsible would be held accountable. A call for transparency and accountability has been echoed by the Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey, demanding that the facts surrounding the alterations of photos and names of Jewish students be revealed.

The fallout from the yearbook incident has had a profound impact on both the Jewish and Muslim communities at East Brunswick High School. Charlotte Friedman, president of the school’s Jewish Club, expressed feeling as though their identity as Jewish students had been symbolically erased. Similarly, a Muslim student identified as Zain revealed that he had received death threats on social media, with individuals labelling him as a terrorist.

In response to the backlash faced by both communities, the school board has announced that an independent group will be investigating the incident. The superintendent has issued apologies to both the Jewish and Muslim students and families for the pain caused by the misplaced photo in the yearbook.

As the investigation continues, seniors who received the erroneous yearbooks have been asked to return them so that the page can be replaced with the correct photo of the Jewish Student Union and the names of its members. Underclassmen who have not yet received their yearbooks will be provided with corrected versions. Valeski has urged the East Brunswick community to allow time for the investigation to unfold and to refrain from rushing to judgment before all the facts are known..
