The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has apprehended two juveniles in relation to a series of vehicle thefts in Iredell County, North Carolina.

On an early Sunday morning, law enforcement officers from Iredell County responded to a residence in the Troutman area following a report of a vehicle being stolen from the caller’s driveway. Subsequently, deputies gathered information about the stolen car and initiated a search of the vicinity.

Shortly thereafter, Iredell County deputies sighted the stolen vehicle being driven through downtown Statesville. A pursuit ensued after deputies attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver evaded capture. Despite the suspect crashing the vehicle and fleeing on foot, deputies managed to discover incriminating evidence inside the stolen vehicle that linked back to the suspect.

Additional reports of car break-ins in northern Iredell County and the Troutman area, as well as the theft of a second vehicle from a home in northern Iredell County, were received by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office on the same day.

Following interviews and examination of evidence retrieved from the stolen car, detectives were able to identify a 15-year-old male teenager as the individual responsible for driving the stolen car and breaking into other vehicles throughout the night.

Furthermore, an 18-year-old named Steven Michael Potts from Statesville was identified as an accomplice to the juvenile in the car break-ins and the theft of the second vehicle. Arrest warrants were issued for Potts, leading to his apprehension on Thursday.

Subsequent to interviews with both suspects, detectives successfully recovered the second stolen vehicle in northern Iredell County. Potts was then taken into custody and charged with various offences, including two counts of felony larceny of a motor vehicle and seven counts of felony breaking or entering a motor vehicle.

Additionally, charges are being pressed against the 15-year-old suspect through the Department of Juvenile Justice for offences such as felony fleeing to elude arrest and felony larceny of a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing, and both suspects are currently in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
