UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) – A tragic incident unfolded in Utah County as a missing hiker, whose phone was discovered on Friday near Horsetail Falls with a distressing video of her being swept away in a river, has been found lifeless, as confirmed by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

The 19-year-old woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was located below the cascading waters of Horsetail Falls, shared Sgt. Garrett Dutson from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

The search operation commenced when the sheriff’s office was alerted about the discovery at approximately 3 p.m. on Friday. The location of interest was the Dry Creek Canyon area adjacent to Horsetail Falls.

According to Dutson, a fellow hiker stumbled upon a phone that was set up to capture footage. Upon reviewing the contents, it was distressingly revealed that a woman had been swept away in the river.

Responding swiftly to the distress call, a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was dispatched to the scene alongside a comprehensive search and rescue team.

Emphasizing the hazardous conditions, Dutson advised against entering the water due to the rapid flow and unpredictability of the river.

At present, no further details have been disclosed, leaving the community in mourning over this heartbreaking loss.
