Surat: A tragic incident unfolded on Friday night on the Outer Ring Road in the jurisdiction of Utran police station, as a speeding car crashed into a family, resulting in the death of three members and leaving three others injured. Among the deceased is an 8-year-old boy.
The victims were identified as Sanket Vavadiya (32) from Mota Varachha, Devesh Vaghani (32), and his son Vian (8) from Velanja. The injured individuals, including a pregnant woman, are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The deceased were diamond artisans, highlighting the loss of skilled members of the community.
The tragic accident occurred when the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle, swerving off the road and colliding with the group of people seated by the roadside. The pregnant wife of Sanket Vavadiya, Dipika, along with their sister Hiral, were among those injured in the incident.
Ajay Miyani, another family member present at the scene, sustained minor injuries. Miyani, who witnessed the horrific event, filed a complaint against the driver of the car, identified as Jignesh Goel, at the Utran police station.
Police have taken Goel into custody and charged him with causing death by negligence. During interrogation, Goel, a resident of Amroli and owner of a tailoring shop, confessed that he had fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the tragic accident. He was returning from Ahmedabad after admitting his brother-in-law to a hospital.
The Outer Ring Road, where the incident occurred, is still under development, with some sections unfinished and others widened. Tragically, fatal accidents have been reported on this stretch in the past, raising concerns about road safety in the area.
Recent Tragic Incidents
In a similar unfortunate incident, three members of a family lost their lives in a road accident on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri district. The victims, Lucknow-based businessman Vivek Upadhyay, his brother Rajeev, and their mother Vimla, were killed when their speeding SUV collided with a container truck.
Such incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the need for vigilance while driving, especially on busy highways and under construction roads.
