A resident of the area was apprehended on a felony battery warrant on Thursday following accusations of assaulting his 64-year-old father the previous month. The incident involved the use of brass knuckles to strike his father in the head.

Nathan Renard Willis, aged 33 and residing on Grove Street, was taken into custody around 2 p.m. in the 400 block of Freeman Street. He has been charged with second-degree domestic battery, a serious offence that carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

Willis is currently detained without bail and is scheduled to make an appearance in Garland County District Court on Friday. His criminal history reveals a prior conviction for aggravated robbery in 2010, which resulted in a 10-year prison sentence. Additionally, he was found guilty of misdemeanor third-degree domestic battery on May 17, 2018, leading to six months of probation and 90 days behind bars.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Willis’ father visited the Hot Springs Police Department on May 26, reporting an assault that had taken place earlier that day. The father recounted being at his residence on Grove Street when his son, identified as Willis, accused him of theft. This accusation sparked a heated argument between the two, culminating in Willis punching his father in the face.

Subsequently, Willis proceeded to knee his father in the face, resulting in swelling and bleeding of the nose and lip. When the father attempted to defend himself, Willis allegedly produced brass knuckles and struck him on the head, causing a significant laceration.

Following the altercation, Willis departed the scene, allowing the victim to cycle to the police department for assistance. Law enforcement officers documented the father’s injuries through photographs, confirming that they aligned with his account of the incident.

Given the victim’s age of 64 and the intentional nature of the attack by his son, the severity of the battery was heightened. Consequently, a warrant for Willis’ arrest was issued on Tuesday.
