Accident – Death – Obituary News :

PEORIA (25News Now) – In a dramatic turn of events on Friday afternoon, Peoria Police responded to a call regarding a male causing trouble in the 1100 block of S. Blaine Street.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a 52-year-old man identified as Matthew J. Burnside Jr. who had barricaded himself inside the residence and was reportedly armed with a rifle.

Despite repeated commands from law enforcement to surrender, Burnside refused to comply, prompting the deployment of SWAT officials and Police Negotiators to the scene.

After failed attempts to convince Burnside to exit the residence peacefully, SWAT used chemical munitions to flush him out of the property.

Eventually, Burnside emerged from the front door and was taken into custody without further incident. A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of a .22 Rifle.

Burnside was arrested on multiple charges including an IDOC Warrant-Parole Violation, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Resisting/Obstructing Police, and an Active Warrant for Domestic Battery/Criminal Damage to Property.
