A 30-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged in relation to a homicide that took place in February in the downtown area of Winnipeg.

On the evening of February 25, 2024, officers from the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a call for help near the intersection of Maryland Street and Wellington Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a severely injured male individual who was promptly rushed to the hospital. Despite the valiant efforts of medical personnel, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The victim was identified as 26-year-old Kevin Delaney Flett, a member of the St. Theresa Point First Nation. Following the incident, the investigation was transferred to the Homicide Unit, which determined that Flett had been subject to a violent assault involving a weapon, resulting in his untimely death.

After an extensive examination of the case, on June 7, 2024, Tyron Custer Harper, aged 30, was apprehended by officers of the Winnipeg Police Service. Harper has been formally charged with second-degree murder in relation to the tragic demise of Flett.

Currently, Harper remains in police custody as legal proceedings continue.
