WHITELAND, Ind. (WISH) — A 35-year-old man from Franklin tragically lost his life in a devastating accident involving a semitrailer on Interstate 65 late Friday night.
The victim, identified as Joseph Culp by the Johnson County Coroner’s Office, was parked off the side of I-65 near the 96-mile marker just south of the Worthsville Road exit when the incident occurred.
According to a release from the coroner’s office, the fatal incident took place around 10:15 p.m. as Culp was standing outside his parked vehicle on the highway. It was at this moment that he was struck by a semitruck travelling southbound.
Indiana State Police are set to conduct a thorough investigation into the crash, although details about the condition of the truck driver involved in the accident have not been disclosed at this time.
As authorities await the results of toxicology tests on Culp, the community mourns the loss of a beloved individual and offers their deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
