Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced media mogul, has filed an appeal challenging his 2023 conviction in Los Angeles for rape and sexual assault. This appeal comes just six weeks after Weinstein’s 2020 convictions in New York were overturned. The legal team representing Weinstein argues that he did not receive a fair trial and is seeking a new trial to overturn the Los Angeles verdict.

Weinstein, 72, was originally found guilty in New York City in 2020 of criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree. Subsequently, he was sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles. However, his lawyers are now arguing that the Los Angeles conviction was a “miscarriage of justice” and that Weinstein was denied his constitutional rights during the trial.

According to reports from the Associated Press, CNN, and NBC News, Weinstein’s legal team filed the appeal in California’s Second District Court of Appeal on Friday, June 7. The appeal claims that the judge overseeing the Los Angeles trial excluded crucial evidence that could have supported Weinstein’s innocence.

Weinstein’s spokesperson and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office have not responded to requests for comment regarding the appeal.
