MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA/Gray News) – The state of Alabama is reeling from a tragic incident at a grocery store in Montgomery where three men lost their lives in a deadly robbery.
One of the victims has been identified as George Elijah Jr. His son, Mitchell “Holt” Elijah, shared that his father was at Tienda Los Hermanos grocery store on Tuesday evening, simply picking up food for his dogs and visiting with the store owner when the unthinkable happened.
“He taught me everything,” Holt Elijah said. “I could sit here and tell you a list 10 miles long of what he meant to me and the memories we made.”
Holt Elijah, who recently turned 25, described his father as a selfless man who always put others first.
According to Montgomery police, George Elijah, along with Daniel Lopez and the store’s owner, Ramiro Lopez, were the unfortunate victims of the robbery that took place that evening.
Holt Elijah revealed that his father had frequented the store many times before and was actually speaking on the phone with his brother when the violent incident unfolded.
Sadly, before any help could arrive, the three men had already sustained gunshot wounds and were fighting for their lives.
The Elijah family is devastated by the loss of George Elijah, and they are currently in the process of finalising funeral arrangements for their beloved family member.
“George loved his family, especially Holt, more than anything,” Grayson Harris shared on a GoFundMe page set up to assist the Elijah family with funeral expenses.
Central Alabama Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for the shooting.
“It’s got to stop. People are taking lives that don’t need to be taken,” Holt Elijah said. “Over what? What’s the purpose? There is no purpose. I just feel like there needs to be more love in the world.”
Alabama authorities are actively pursuing leads and working tirelessly to apprehend those responsible for this senseless act of violence.
