The victim, identified as George Elijah Jr., was at the Tienda Los Hermanos grocery store on Tuesday evening when the incident occurred. According to his son, Mitchell “Holt” Elijah, George was visiting with the store owner, Ramiro Lopez, and picking up food for his dogs when the robbery turned fatal.
Describing his father as a mentor and role model, Holt Elijah expressed the profound impact George had on his life. He highlighted his father’s selflessness and generosity towards others, emphasising his father’s good character and the positive influence he had on those around him.
Alongside George Elijah, Daniel Lopez, and Ramiro Lopez also lost their lives in the tragic incident. Holt Elijah recounted the moments leading up to the shooting, revealing that his father was speaking to his brother on the phone when the chaos unfolded.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Elijah family is grappling with the loss of a loved one and the need to carry on amidst the grief. Holt Elijah shared that his father’s passion for success and perseverance serve as guiding principles as they navigate this difficult time.
Alabama authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the robbery. The Elijah family is in the process of arranging funeral services for George Elijah, honouring his memory and the love he shared with his family.

Additionally, Central Alabama Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the suspect/s involved in the shooting.
